Dear Prospective Adoptive
Parent(s):
Not every family wishes to adopt a
newborn.
There are many children waiting for a home
and many families waiting for a Special
Child.
First, we need to know what type
of child would best fit into your lives.
This alone can be an overwhelming decision.
Second, we need to understand the
extensive information offered on each child
and to be able to sort through terminology
that is foreign to the inexperienced
applicant.
Our goal is to offer pre and post
placement support to the child and the
prospective family, and to accomplish the
smoothest possible transition in the
placement process.
Transition from an agency or
foster care program can be devastating to the
child at any age, and only in understanding
the proper way to integrate this child into
his/her new and permanent environment with
all the legacies following the child, can we
hope to turn a potentially painful process
into a positive experience for both the child
and parent(s).
Additional issues plaguing
prospective parent(s), are the childs
need (no matter what his/her background) to
recognize and accept his/her past.
Our job is to be able to help these children
accept their new home, and experience a
positive bonding with their new family while
being able to learn to express their feelings
regarding their birth family.
This can be very threatening to
us, the adult, but with an understanding of
our own feelings, we can help develop a
healthy atmosphere in which the child can
grow and prosper.
We believe that every child deserves a
home...
