Son was born a few miles from Saigon. He lived in a home with lots of family. For Vietnam, his home was quite modern. Like Tuan, his father was imprisoned for helping the Americans for seven years. Unlike Tuan, Son decided at age nine to leave Vietnam and try to get to a free Country. He left his home, on his own and traveled across country to the Ocean to find passage out of Vietnam. He paid a small fishing boat to take him to Indochina. On route they were almost captured but a Russian oil rig crew helped hide them. He was buried under a boatload of fish incase they were stopped for seven days.During this trip he almost died due to the vomiting and sickness under pounds of dead fish. After arriving at Indochina, he spent six months there waiting for clearance into the United States. His brother had escaped years before and was sponsoring him into the US. After arriving in the US, his brother found it to difficult to try to bring up a small child and asked an agency to help handle his brothers care. He was placed in my home in 1989.
